One particular search term has been bringing dozens of new viewers to Captain Scratchy every day for the last couple of weeks. That search term is “snuggie for cats.” Here’s why: Last August I posted in my blog a cartoon that featured one of my earliest drawings of Rick and Rufus. That cartoon, which first appeared on my Words and Toons, appears at left. Rick, known in the cartoon as “the cat,” is wearing a lovely Snuggie (and so is “Granny”!), while Rufus has to settle for a ShamWow.
In doing a Google search for “snuggie for cats” just now, the Captain Scratchy blog post with this cartoon came up first. I can only surmise that most of the new visitors to Captain Scratchy aren’t looking for a cartoon featuring a cat wearing a Snuggie. Since the surge of people using this search term has coincided with the Christmas shopping season, I’ve reached the brilliant conclusion that Captain Scratchy has lured these extra visitors because they are actually looking to buy a Snuggie for their cat(s). Alas, it seems that Snuggie does not offer its wonderful product in cat sizes and styles. There is a Snuggie for dogs, however. So my advice for the “snuggie for cat” searchers is to buy the cat a dog Snuggie (small), and just don’t tell him or her that it wasn’t custom-made for feline comfort. Oh, and keep coming back to Captain Scratchy, you cat Snuggie searchers!
